Horton Smith G.C. Host U.S. Speedgolf Championship

Horton Smith Golf Course in Springfield Missouri hosted the 2021 U.S. Speedgolf Championships over the Labor Day weekend. Speedgolfers from around the country and even the world (one participate was from Tokyo Japan), competed in the two day event. Horton Smith Golf Pro, and speedgolfer himself, Garrett Holt was able to get the championships to Horton Smith where the event also benefited the Ozark Honor Flight organization.

Speedgolf combines the golfers score with the time it takes for them to navigate their way around the course. Jason Hawkins from Prospect Kentucky, was the National Champ with a total score of 221.23. This consisted of scores of 72 and 73 combined with times of 38 minutes and 6 seconds and 38 minutes and 17 seconds.

Scott Dawley from Houston Texas, shot a new world record on day one, with a score/time of 107.15, which was achieved by shooting a 65 and had a time of 42 minutes and 15 seconds as he covered the Horton Smith Golf Course. Complete results will be shown in the picture gallery.

Ozark Tur Association Gold Partner, Clear Creek Golf Car and Utility Vehicles was one of the sponsors of the event.

Ozark Turf Association member and Horton Smith Superintendent, Melvin Waldron III, CGCS and his staff helped prepare the course for this challenge. He is quoted as saying, “We were honored to host one of the three big golf events of the weekend, along with the Solheim Cup and Tour Championships”.
