OTA Member Completes Assistant Golf Course Superintendent Certificate

Andrew Mills, assistant golf course superintendent at Ledgestone Country Club in Branson West, Missouri, completed GCSAA’s Assistant Superintendent Certificate Series, sponsored by John Deere.

Andrew began his golf course career more than 10 years ago in a seasonal role at Ledgestone Country Club, after previously working only in a factory. He soon discovered that the job involved far more than growing grass and valued seeing the tangible results of his hard work.

His first challenge was learning the terminology for his assigned tasks, and he became intrigued by the varying mowing heights across the course’s turf areas. As his knowledge of turf and equipment grew, the job became a passion, inspiring Andrew to pursue it as a career.

Recognizing Andrew’s hard work and dedication, Ledgestone golf course superintendent Kolby Armbruster shared his expertise and helped Andrew develop into his role as assistant superintendent. Kolby then encouraged him to take advantage of opportunities offered by GCSAA and its local affiliate, the Ozark Turf Association. Where Andrew was able to refine his skills in irrigation and spraying. For the past five years, Andrew has been active in both organizations, attending meetings, webinars, and the GCSAA Conference and Trade Show—experiences that have shaped him into the knowledgeable, skilled turf professional and leader he is today.

The Assistant Superintendent Certificate Series is offered by GCSAA and sponsored by John Deere.  It is composed of certificates covering key competency areas of: Principles of Golf Course Agronomy, Business, Environmental Stewardship, and Leadership and Communication.  If interested, contact GCSAA or visit the website www.gcsaa.org
